God is Full of Surprises
Several months ago a filmmaker in Toronto contacted me about being a part of her documentary. She enjoys digging into topical issues and wants to make a film about how society treats those who are transgender. She somehow found me and thought my story of faith and finding my place within Christ’s Church was intriguing.
She was working on getting a grant to produce the documentary, and months went by without hearing anything and I thought perhaps it just wasn’t going to happen or she found someone else.
Well, last week she contacted me telling me the grant has been approved and she hopes to fly to Austin late this month with a small crew to interview me, some good friends along with some church leaders.
So many people who are transgender hate Christianity, hate Christians (even if they’re transgender—trust me) and hate God because of how they either have been treated or how they perceived they would be treated if they walked into a church or even just talked to a Christian. This is an amazing opportunity to reach those that might otherwise not go anywhere near a church or hear a pastor tell them they are loved by God.
So many people who are transgender hate Christianity, hate Christians and hate God…
So many people who are transgender hate Christianity, hate Christians and hate God…
This isn’t a “Christian” documentary, but the filmmaker is genuinely interested in how something that is (stereotypically) considered “taboo” in the church has found acceptance, and she wants to portray it exactly as it is, without any bias.
Pray that God will speak through the part of the documentary that I’m involved in, that others who are transgender who think God hates them will discover that in fact, He loves them, that He loves us all, it’s our heart that He sees, and all He wants is to have His children love Him back for the gift He has given us.

I’m so thrilled about this! Finally a chance to portray that not all Christians are awful people who hate and condemn transgender people.
